What does inside/outside mount mean?
Inside mount means that the blind or shade will be mounted inside the window frame, which in most cases means it will be flush with the wall, or even a little sunken.
Outside mount means the blind or shade is mounted to the wall so that the blind or shade covers the frame as well as the window.
What does top-down/bottom-up mean?
Top-down/bottom-up window treatments can be controlled from either the top (moving down) or the bottom (moving up), allowing you to customize your privacy and light levels. While they can be used on virtually any window, they are especially useful for bathrooms, bedrooms, and public-facing windows.
I want privacy, but I also want to let light in. Is there a window treatment that will let me do both?
A combination of treatments, such as sheers or blinds under drapes, can provide either privacy or light, depending on the situation. However, for privacy and light simultaneously, top-down/bottom-up shades or blinds are probably your best bet.
Do I need to run wires for motorized blinds?
Not all motorized window treatments need to be hard-wired. Battery and wireless operation (plug-in power supplies with RF or infrared technology) are also available. However, not all motorization options are available for all window treatments. See product details or ask one of our knowledgeable staff about the motorization options for your chosen window covering.

What is an “energy efficient” window treatment?
With regard to window treatments, energy efficiency refers to conservation. Different treatments will have different levels of efficiency, depending on how well they repel solar heat, insulate the home, and allow for daylighting (the use of natural light rather than electric fixtures). Window coverings, by their nature, are energy efficient, but some are much more so than others. See the product details of your chosen window treatment or ask one of our knowledgeable staff for more information.
Cords can be dangerous for pets or young children. What other options do you have?
Child and pet safety is extremely important to us at New York City Blinds and to the manufacturers we represent. Many of our products have cordless, motorized, or wand control options, which are not only safer for children and pets but also easier to operate.
How long do window treatments last?
Window treatments generally last 10 to 20 years, or even longer. Actual lifespan depends on exposure to sunlight, materials, location, and maintenance. You may also change them out sooner for style reasons. New York City Blinds carries window treatments that are designed to withstand wear and tear and exposure to sunlight with as little maintenance as possible. See product details for your chosen treatment or ask one of our knowledgeable staff for more information.
What are decorative tapes?
Decorative tapes are strips of fabric that run vertically down the blind on either side in place of or over the string ladders that control the blinds.
What does “routless design” mean?
Regular blinds have rout-holes, tiny holes in the slats through which the string ladders are threaded. Routless designs eliminate these holes so that the blinds seal completely to block out light when closed.
